As a people-first organization and a proud leader in the international B Corp community, FMG welcomes the opportunity to celebrate National Wellness Month throughout the month of August. We are deeply committed to empowering our employees to be well in all aspects of their personal and professional lives all year, which we know has been more challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic. FMG’s People and Culture team knows that providing this level of holistic wellness support and meeting the challenges of transitioning to a completely remote workforce require addressing many different dimensions of leading a healthy life. Accordingly, we are proud to offer many resources and benefits to empower FMG’s employees to care for themselves and others.

From emotional health to spiritual wellness, check out some of the ways FMG’s People and Culture team encourages employees to attend to various facets of self-care:

Physical Self-Care

FMG leaders are continuously looking for innovative ways to encourage self-care in our current remote environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have partnered with Barry’s At-Home to give employees a chance to move with bodyweight workouts suited for all fitness levels (camera optional!). FMGers also frequently share workout tips and routines on our Teams channels to motivate each other. Beyond fitness, FMG also offers many ways to care for yourself physically via our health insurer—from inclusive fertility benefits to $0 co-pay telehealth consultations, short-term disability (STD) covered at 100%, and exclusive fitness discounts.

Social Self-Care

Transitioning to being at home 100% of the time can be hard on anyone. FMGers crave social contact with their coworkers. Although we are unable to physically gather as a company (for now), the People and Culture team encourages employees to remain social through a variety of channels. FMGers can volunteer with our Community Impact Team (CIT), join the FMG book club, participate in FMG-wide trivia and scavenger hunts, connect with coworkers over common interests in our FMG Community platform, and participate in our Affinity Groups. Each team at FMG also has a team-building budget to use as they wish for fun social events throughout the year!

Psychological and Emotional Self-Care

FMG is committed to destigmatizing mental health and encouraging employees to ask for help when they need it. We have partnered with Spring Health this year to give all FMGers (regardless of enrollment in our group insurance plan) the opportunity to care for their mental well-being. Through this new benefit, our employees can take advantage of well-rounded mental health care. Additionally, our health insurer now covers gender-affirming surgery. FMG also provides generous leave policies to accommodate the varying needs of our employees’ personal lives.

Environmental Self-Care

Working remotely, for those who are not used to it, can be a huge adjustment. Our expert FMGers who have previously worked from home shared their tips and best practices with coworkers for maintaining self-care while working from home and for managing teams remotely. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, FMG has also encouraged employees to bring home their office furniture and IT equipment to make their home offices more comfortable and ergonomically friendly. Additionally, FMG accommodates those employees that require alternate desk arrangements for medical reasons (i.e., standing desks).

Spiritual Self-Care

FMG has recently partnered with a fellow B Corp, Office Yoga, to provide our employees with free yoga from the comfort of their own homes. FMG also encourages employees to get up and get outside during the workday by providing flexible scheduling to empower people to do so. Another benefit that FMGers report supports their spiritual self-care is the 16 hours of paid volunteer time off (VTO) that all employees have so that they can volunteer for a personal cause that may be near and dear to their heart.

Financial Self-Care

Finances can be a source of anxiety for anyone, no matter your financial position. FMG eases this anxiety for our employees by partnering with trusted financial experts to guide them in the right direction. We frequently bring in experts, such as from our retirement provider, to give seminars to instruct employees in different ways to maintain their financial self-care. The People and Culture team also hosts events like a financial wellness series, which focuses on advice geared toward each career level at FMG.
