Within the Department of Defense (DoD), FMG serves as a trusted authority on recruitment communications and human capital strategy. By effectively using scientific research and business strategy, we have assisted in improving policy and programs affecting the federal civilian and military workforce.

Our social scientists, statisticians, survey methodologists, and policy and marketing experts specialize in applying the scientific method to examine complex and challenging problems. Many of our surveys are longitudinal efforts that track population attitudes and behaviors to understand the dynamic forces influencing military recruiting, retention, and Service member wellbeing. Other efforts involve qualitative and quantitative research focused on issues such as perceptions of military advertising, culture, leadership, and diversity.

Our research findings and recommendations have been presented to Under Secretaries of Defense, and members of the Senate and House of Representatives, DoD Senior Executives, Unit Commanders, and Military Flag Officers.

Examples of Impact

Recently completed projects include:

Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP)

Developed a comprehensive training program to increase awareness of voting tools and resources among Military voters used across a worldwide network of voting assistance personnel through a series of qualitative research efforts and curriculum audit. 

United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)

Evaluated and improved human capital programs and related training materials on facility performance through a variety of formative and summative techniques, including assessment of qualitative interviews, personnel records, and survey research.
